My name is Cassandra Ballew, better known as Mrs. Ballew for the last 9 years of my life. This is my 4th year as a 1st grade teacher here at Hawthorn! I enjoy outdoor activities with my family. I love camping, hiking, and taking road trips. I also love to paint and craft. I moved to Utah from New Mexico about 5 years ago. While living in New Mexico I obtained my degree in Early Childhood Multicultural Education from UNM. 

 I aim to create a learning environment where curiosity and creativity thrive.  I place a strong emphasis on social and emotional skills, understanding that education goes beyond academic success. By nurturing self-regulation and emotional intelligence, I strive to provide students with the tools they need to navigate their emotions and interactions both inside and outside the classroom.

My hope is to ignite a lifelong passion for learning in each child, encouraging them to explore their interests and develop a love for knowledge. At the heart of my teaching philosophy is the belief that every student has the potential to excel when given the right support and encouragement. I am looking forward to  a successful year full of laughs, special moments, and academic growth!
