My name is Sylvia Setterberg. This will be my second year teaching Kindergarten at Hawthorn Academy. Before becoming a teacher I was a teacher’s aide in Kindergarten for 7 years. During these years I found I enjoyed helping the teacher lay a strong foundation for a kindergartner’s academic career. I decided that this is what I wanted to do too. So I went back to school and earned a Bachelor of Arts Interdisciplinary Studies K-6 from Western Governors University.
I’ve been married to my best friend, Carlos, for 27 years. We have two children – Katie (married her best friend, Buck, last year) and Spencer (graduated from high school Spring 2020). We are adoptive parents to a sweet dog, Cosmo.
I love working with the students and faculty/staff at Hawthorn Academy. I’m excited for the challenges of the coming year and the opportunities I will have to help Kindergarteners become better learners, citizens and friends.
