Special Education (Secondary)
My name is Amalie Harmon and I teach middle school special education. This is my tenth year teaching and my ninth year at Hawthorn Academy. I enjoy working in education and have worked in education for the last 15 years in one capacity or another. I completed my undergraduate degree at BYU in History Teaching and a Master's degree at the University of Phoenix in Educational Studies with an emphasis in Special Education.
I am from Johnsburg, Illinois, a small farm town about an hour northwest of Chicago. I am a Chicago sports fan and will cheer on all of my teams especially the 2016 World Series Champion Chicago Cubs (baseball) and the Chicago Blackhawks (Hockey). I love my Utah Jazz and BYU Cougars too.
When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time in the water including swimming, paddle boarding, canoeing, kayaking and boating. I enjoy playing sports and being active; softball and pickleball are my favorite sports. I enjoy bargain shopping for myself or others.
I also am a doting aunt of 3 adorable nephews and one feisty niece. I love bison and shoes and generally having a good laugh and having fun. I love being a part of the Hawthorn Academy community and working with students to become life-long learners and to be part of their journey in education.
